The move by Texas church leaders follows a shocking Pennsylvania report in August detailing seven decades of child sexual abuse by more than 300 priests.
In the months after that report, about 50 dioceses and religious provinces have released the names of nearly 1,250 priests and others accused of abuse. Approximately 60 percent of them have died. About 30 other dioceses are investigating or have promised to release names of credibly accused priests in the coming months.

New Jersey Catholic List Names of Nearly 200 Priests Accused of Abuse
Roman Catholic bishops in New Jersey on Wednesday named nearly 200 priests who have been found credibly accused of sexually abusing a child. The disclosure is just the latest reported in recent weeks by dioceses and religious orders across the country as law enforcement officials examine the church’s response to an epidemic of abuse.
As with many of the other lists published, most of the priests identified by the New Jersey bishops are dead, and the accusations involve alleged abuse that happened decades ago.
The list of names included Theodore McCarrick, the former cardinal who stands to be one of the highest-profile Catholic figures in modern times to be defrocked, and a parish priest who was the first to be criminally charged as part of the New Jersey attorney general’s investigation into clergy abuse.
The bishops in New Jersey have followed dozens of their colleagues in the United States in deciding to publish the names of suspected abusers after a grand jury report in Pennsylvania last summer outlined seven decades of accusations and inflamed broader tensions in the church over its handling of abuse.

Diocesan Cases of Boston N-QNgwumohaike affairRev. Anthony Ngwumohaike accused of abuse.
Nugent affairRev. Frank settled for $250,000 for alleged abuse, 1998. Other cases pending.
Nyhan case Rev. W. James Nyhan (1945-), ordained 1973, pastor of Saint Mary Church in Billerica, was investigated in a abuse allegation but was closed after his accuser recanted. The archdiocese review board considered Nyhan's case twice, 3 November 1994, and 4 December 1997. From the early 1980s until 1994, Nyhan was the chaplain at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, an archdiocesan school. In 1994, the same year the review board first considered his case, Nyhan was transferred to Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus. The following year, he had no assignment. Nyhan was transferred to Matignon High School in Cambridge as chaplain from 1996 through 1998. He was named pastor of the Billerica parish in 1999. Pled guilty to criminal charges 2006. Dismissed 2007.
  1. LaCorte accusationNew allegation by Dennis M. LaCorte, that Nyhan repeatedly molested him over about 18 months, forcing him to perform oral sexon him, when a 11-12-years-old in 1979 while Nyhan was an associate pastor at the Church of the Nativity on Folly Road running St. Ambrose Catholic Youth Organization. Nylan first abused him in the swimming pool of the Dorchester YMCA, and went on to molest him dozens of times in the bathroom of the St. Ambrose Church basement, and in bathroom stalls at Fenway Park, during CYO outings. “'It started out with him groping me in the pool and then went on to other things,'” LaCorte said. “He preyed on my innocence and preyed on the fact that I was brought up Catholic and was raised to look up to a priest,” was deemed sufficiently credible to warrant Nyhan's immediate suspension, June 2002.
  2. Nyhan Charleston Rev. James Nyhan went to Charleston in 1979 when he was granted a year's leave of absence from his duties in Massachusetts. At the Church of the Nativity, Nyhan oversaw the church'saltar boys, at least one of the alleged victims was one of his charges, and the attack occurred in the church rectory. Nyhan was arrested by the Charleston County Sheriff's Department in November 2003 after his name surfaced in the investigation into widespread sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Boston. He faced two charges of committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 14, the alleged incidents occurred around 1979 when Nyhan was a visiting associate pastor at the Church of the Nativity on Folly Road. Trial began 24 April 2006, Pled guilty to criminal charges 2006. Dismissed 2007.led guilty to criminal charges 2006.
O’Connor affair Rev. Thomas J. O’Connor (deceased) was accused of abusing a 16 year-old boy in 1952-1953 at St. Patrick Church in Monson.
O'Leary affairRev. Arthur P. O'Leary accused of abuse per diocesan records.
O'Neill affairRev. William V. O'Neill (d. 1960), ordained 1931. (O’Malley letter, 25 August 2011).
O’Sullivan caseRev. Eugene M. O'Sullivan, ordained 1960, who served at a number of parishes in the Boston area, including St. Agnes Church in Arlington. Pled guilty to criminal charges 1984. Defrocked by the Vatican, the Archdiocese of Boston announced 29 July 2005.
  1. O’Sullivan trialEugene O'Sullivan was sentenced to five years’ probation in 1984 after he admitted sodomizinga 13-year-old altar boyat St. Ann's Parish in Marshfield. One condition of his probation was that he not be allowed to work with children, but church officials, who had pleaded with a judge for leniency on his behalf, later assigned him priestly duties at four New Jersey parishes.
  2. Massachusetts accusationWoman wrote in 1964 to Cardinal Richard Cushing that O'Sullivan had picked up her 12-year-old son from their summer cottage and took him to the sacristy “under the pretense of checking the altar boy assignments” for St. Ann's parish. Her son was very upset when he returned home and told his parents the priest had reached into his bathing trunks and “touched him repeatedly in the private area.” The woman said her son told her the priest had touched him there on previous occasions.
  3. Sean accusationSexually abused by Rev. Eugene O'Sullivan (Father Bud), his uncle, for a nine-year period beginning when he was 9 years old and had abused his older brother, TJ, for years before that. Nearing death at the age of 32, Sean said that living with AIDS has brought him clarity and simplicity and even restored the faith he says he lost because he and his brother TJ (died of heart failure 1989) were sexually abused as children by Father Bud. "We were told he would no longer be involved with the church ... that he would no longer be able to practice as a priest. At the time of my father's funeral, my uncle asked the archbishop if he could say the Mass and he was given the right to say the Mass. I did not go to my father's funeral for that very reason, nor did my sister or my mother."
  4. New Jersey transfer Very Rev. McCarrick later bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen, NJ, and in 1985 the Cardinal in Washington DC, accepted Rev. Eugene O'Sullivan’s transfer from Boston, even though he knew he had a record of sexual molestation. His first assignment in New Jersey was to a parish with an elementary school. During his seven years in Metuchen, O’Sullivan was transferred to other churches in which he continued to serve around children, including a youth group, but parishioners were not told of his background. O'Sullivan was recalled to Boston in 1992 and directed to stop his ministry. When McCarrick was questioned about O'Sullivan in 1993, he acknowledged he was aware of the priest’s background when he agreed to take Father O’Sullivan.
NoteO'Sullivan was sent in 1985 to serve as a priest in the Diocese of Metuchen, NJ, a fact that appeared to contradict prior testimony of Cardinal Bernard Law about the reason for the transfer, in a pre-trial deposition he said it was both to avoid a scandal resulting from publicity due to the criminal case and because he had relatives in that state. He had family in New Jersey, which is important in terms of support to the priest himself, testified Law. O'Sullivan testified January 2003 that his family was in Boston, not New Jersey.
  1. Washington DC transferCardinal McCarrick put O’Sullivan on administrative leave because of sexual misconduct and said he had received assurances from Boston and a treatment center that O'Sullivan was rehabilitated and there were no work restrictions on him. The cardinal has said he would not agree to accept such a priest as O’Sullivan again, 2002.
Ouellette affair When a woman complained to the Archdiocese of Bostonin 1994 that the Rev. Lionel P. Ouellette (d. 2000), ordained 1957, had molested her as a schoolgirl in Lynn, the church ruled he could keep his job.
Pagacz affairRev. Julian Pagacz arrested 1992, charges dropped when girl refused to testify. (O’Malley letter, 25 August 2011).
Papile affairRev. Joseph A Papile (d. 2009), (Deacon), ordained 1988. (O’Malley letter, 25 August 2011).
Paquin caseRev. Ronald H. Paquin, ordained 1973, a serial molester, claimed he was abused by the Rev. Bernard St. Hillaire (St. Hillaire affair) while a youth, acts that led him to similar proclivities. (O’Malley letter, 25 August 2011).
  1. Paquin identifiedPaquin was first identified by Rev. Allen E. Roche (Roche affair), the pastor at St. Monica's Church in Methuen, where Paquin was an associate pastor for eight years after his 1973 ordination, as a sexual molester but he never informed the archdiocese even though he had heard repeated reports that Paquin had taken young boys to his rectory bedroom, at least one youth had complained to him that Paquin molested him in the room. In 1981 one of four teenage boys Paquin took to a New Hampshire ski chalet, died after Paquin lost control of the car.
  2. Paquin removedPaquin was removed from parish work in 1990 after accusations of plying boys with gifts and liquor before molesting and orally raping them, c. 1970-1990.
  3. Paquin accusationsFurther 13 accusations from that period were registered by the Church which settled six of them for more than $500,000, 1990-96.
  4. McCormack cover-upRev. John B. McCormack, who headed the archdiocese's office of clergy abuse, informed Paquin that he was being removed from St. John's Church and sent for treatment to St. Luke's Institute in Maryland, September 1990. Paquin landed a job as chaplain at Youville Hospital in Cambridge following his ouster from St. John the Baptist Parish in Haverhill and several years on “sick leave.” He said officials at the hospital were aware “of my situation.” Church officials reassured Paquin that the diocese has a reputation for acting charitably toward disenfranchised priests. In one report dated 4 March 1991, McCormack noted that Paquin expressed concerns about his ability to do hospital ministry without acting out impulsively. But later that year the church helped him get into a chaplain program at the then-Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen (now called Holy Family Hospital).
  5. Vatican informedFrom 1994 to 2000, the archdiocese advisory board, with the support of Cardinal Bernard F. Law, sought laicization but Paquin rejected the recommendations four times. In a December 2000 letter to the Vatican, Archbishop Law said Paquin should be removed from the priesthood. The letter noted that Paquin was the cause of “grave scandal.” In a 2001 statement from Paquin, he noted that he was told that if he agreed to leave the priesthood, the matter would be done “privately and without embarrassment.” If not, it would be “public and notorious.” Agreeing to start the process, Paquin asked for some kind of financial and health benefits, housing and a pension. A 1996 memo from the Rev. Brian M. Flatley said Paquin was named executor of St. Hilaire's mother's estate. The heirs of that estate, who include two boys allegedly molested by Paquin, said they are owed money from the estate. Paquin denied abusing either of the boys, but he admitted being in a car with St. Hilaire when St. Hilaire abused one of the youths. One church official wrote to McCormack saying that both St. Hilaire and Paquin cheated a woman out of money under the pretext of supporting a seminarian's education for the priesthood. It was also reported that an elderly friend was upset at having lent $10,000 to Paquin. The report noted that Paquin later requested $20,000, but was refused. Doctors recommended that Paquin, a child of an alcoholic, still needs to handle his anger at his abuser and a controlling mother. Paquin was sentenced to 12-15 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping an altar boyin the 1980s and early 1990s, 31 December 2002. Paquin was laicized by Pope John Paul II, announced by Archbishop Sean Patrick O'Malley in a missive 3 May 2004.
  6. Law’s oversight Paquin’s behavior was so repugnant and the pattern of abuse so clear that a church review board and a top deputy to Law urged that he be dismissed from the priesthood, 1994. After being notified by a Brockton man that Paquin had allegedly abused his son and nephew, who had AIDS.
  7. Flatley memorandumRev. Flatley, then Law’s delegate handling allegations of clergy abuse, approached Law’s top deputy, Bishop William F. Murphy, in March 1996. “Bishop Murphy was very clear in his insistence that it is time for Father Paquin to move away from the priesthood,” But the board changed its mind and voted to let him return to priestly duties so long as he did not have contact with minors, May 1997 and he was assigned by Rev. C. Melvin Surette (Surette affair) to chaplain posts in Cambridge and Lynn.
  8. Paquin settlementsBefore Law reassigned Paquin as a chaplain, the archdiocese had already settled six of the 13 reported molestation cases for more than $500,000. “I know that there have been some very difficult moments for you,” wrote Cardinal Bernard F. Law, “I trust that your own continued vigilance and support of competent professionals will allow you to begin a new phase of ministry in the archdiocese,” 11 July 1998. Paquin was finally removed from his duties after complaints from five more men were received in 2000. Paquin was indicted on three counts of rapeof a child 15 May 2002 and pleaded guilty and sentenced to serve at least 12 years minus the 238 days he has spent in jail awaiting trial, 31 December 2002.
  9. McCormack cover-up In 1991, when a priest told John B. McCormackthat the Rev. Ronald H. Paquin might be molesting a teenage Haverhill boy, McCormack did not report the alleged abuse to state authorities. Asked during a deposition in 2002 why he had not done so, McCormack replied, “because I didn’t think there was any [sexual] activity going on.... Father Paquin assured me there wasn’t.” A plaintiffs' lawyer then asked: “This is the same Father Paquin that you had a credible report about him molesting two boys a year earlier, correct?” “Correct,” McCormack answered.
Pelletier affairRev. Leonard E. Pelletier accused of abuse, removed. (O’Malley letter, 25 August 2011).
Pereppadan case Rev. Varghese Pereppadan, a priest from India, admitted to improperly touching the chest of a 16-year-old girl while living and working at Our Lady of the Presentation Parish in Brighton, MA. As part of a plea agreement, Pereppadan admitted to charges of indecent assault and battery and was sentenced to one year of probation, December 2004.
Pezzotti affairRev. Mario Pezzotti, Xaverian Missionary Fathers, settled for alleged abuse of a boy, 1993, went to Brazil.
Picardi affair Rev. John M. Picardi had admitted to a 1992 rape of an adult man in Florida, he was transferred from Boston to Diocese of Patersonafter being accused of raping another 29-year-old man, early 1990s. Father Groeschelwrote Paterson Bishop Frank Rodimer a letter saying that “there was no indication of any involvement with a minor or a nonconsenting adult,” although he apparently knew that the accuser felt violated. Another church document indicates that while supervising the priest's treatment, Rev. Groeschel had once called a Boston archdiocesan official to ask whether the accuser was “still angry” and “in a litigious stance.” Bishop Rodimer learned of the rape allegation only after Picardi was accused in 1995 of touching a girl improperly in the Paterson Diocese.
  1. Picardi in ArizonaBishop Thomas O’Brien of the Diocese of Phoenixagreed in 1997 to a request from Boston Cardinal Bernard Law to accept Picardi’s transfer even though his record of sexual abuse allegations were so severe that he was banned from ministry in one diocese and nearly defrocked in another. O’Brien assigned Picardi to a Scottsdale parish less than two years after a sex abuse review board established by Law recommended considering the priest’s defrocking. That recommendation was handed down Jan. 4, 1996, but rescinded April 3, 1997, after Picardi appealed his case to the Vatican. The diocese moved him to an associate pastor in a Flagstaff parish, AZ, but he was dismissed after Boston attorney, Roderick MacLeish Jr., obtained and released his personnel file, February 2003.

Rev. John Peter Lenihan (1946-) of St. Norbert's parish, Anaheim, impregnated Kathy Freberg when she was 16, then paid for her to have an abortion. Lenihan admitted the abuse to church authorities years later, after the woman had gone to the police, who had recorded the call in which he confessed. The diocese settled for $25,000 in Mary Grant’s a suit for sexual assault beginning in 1978 in 1991 (Grant went on to become western regional director of SNAP). “Church officials and parishioners immediately rallied around Lenihan, and criticized me for reporting the abuse to the newspaper. I was mortified and crushed that church officials and Catholics with whom I had grown up could care less about protecting kids from child predators,” Grant said. The diocese paid another settlement for $1.2 million in 2002 to a woman who said Lenihan abused her when she was 16 in 1978. In all the diocese paid $1.6 million for Lenihan’s wrongdoings. Lenihan wrote to the pope, asking to be released from the priesthood, admitting having affairs with teenagers. It was reported that Lenihan was “struggling to remain celibate after having been disciplined for sexual contact with a teenager and other women,” and was removed from St. Edward Church in Dana Point by Bishop Tod D. Brown because of the 2002 review. He was arrested and accused of having unlawful sex with a teenage girl, 13 March 2003. Lenihan was never convicted in court.

Br. Modesto Leon, Claretian, accused of abuse, named in the National Audit, 18 February 2004.

Rev. Jerold W. Lindner, Jesuit, ordained 1976, serial pedophile who taught at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, was accused by ten people, that he molested them. He denies it and has not been charged. Lindner was removed from active ministry in Los Angeles in 1997 in response to the Lynch civil lawsuit, and was reportedly sent to the South Bay Jesuit Center in 2002.
  1. Lynch accusation Rev. Jerold W. Lindner was accused of rape and sodomizing of William Lynch and his brother when they were small boys, 7 and 4, in the 1970s while on camping trips in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
    1. Lynch assault William Lynch accused of beating Lindner at the Los Gatos Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in May of 2010. He readily admitted doing so.
  2. Jesuit cover-up Jesuit leaders said they first learned about Lindner’s past in the early 1990s, when Lindner’s brother told them that Lindner had sexually abused three nieces, a nephew and a younger sibling. After sending Lindner for a psychiatric evaluation, Jesuit officials claimed the allegations not credible and put Lindner back in the classroom at Loyola High School.
  3. Lynch accusation In 2002 William Lynch said he had suffered nearly three decades of irreparable emotional and psychological harm, and attempted suicide two times, because of what happened to him at the hands of then-theology student Jerold Lindner, S.J. during a 1975 church-led, family camping trip in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
  4. Lindner lawsuit I Civil suit contends that from the 1950s to the 1980s, Lindner "abused and molested his 5-year-old nephew in Arizona and Berkeley," "sodomized and molested two brothers, ages 4 and 7," "orally copulated and sodomized his 11-year-old nephew" and "molested three nieces." Lindner denied the allegations, but he was part of a secret $625,000 settlement in 1997, according to the Los Angeles Times.
    1. Lindner's brother Associated Press report quoted Lindner's brother, a retired Los Angeles police officer, as saying that he last saw his brother more than two decades ago, after he walked in on his sibling molesting his 8-year-old daughter during a visit. "The last contact I had with him personally was the day after I caught him with my daughter, and I told him he best get in his vehicle and leave," the brother was quoted as saying. "I said, 'If I go out to the truck and get my off-duty weapon out of the glove box, you're a dead man."
  1. Lindner lawsuit II Civil suit with 2 accusers alleging abuse 1973-83, 2003. Lindner has been accused by 10 men and women in Southern California, Phoenix and the Bay Area, the Los Angeles Times reported.
  2. Lindner/Diocese of Oakland Rev. Jerold Lindner, who was named in a 2003 lawsuit by a girl who said he molested her at Corpus Christi in Piedmont while he was serving at St. Ignatius Prep School in San Francisco.
  3. Vatican lawsuit William Lynch filed an unusual federal civil lawsuit against the Vatican, accusing it of being complicit in his abuse, was still furious at the priest: "Of course, he's angry. Every single one of them who was abused by any priest is angry. My client, as well as the other victims in this case, laments the fact that this priest was never prosecuted despite overwhelming evidence, October 2010.
  1. Jesuit memo Lawsuit alleges that Lindner's pedophilia was well-known among his superiors and that they wrote a memo that said his long record of molestations going back to the 1950s should be kept "internal to the Society of Jesus."
  1. Revenge beating William Lynch made a trip to the Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos to see the Rev. Jerold Lindner again, 10 May 2010. "Do you remember me?" he asked the 65-year-old Jesuit priest. "You abused me and my brother." Then, police reports continue, the 44-year-old Lynch began punching Lindner, pummeling the older man so badly that he was hospitalized, his body covered in bruises. The beating may have been prophetic. In a 2002 interview with the Mercury News, Lynch said his rage at Lindner for molesting the Lynch brothers when they were young children was so great, "I could kill him with my bare hands."
3 Lynch trial After an unusual trial, a California jury found William Lynch not guilty of beating up Jesuit priest, Fr. Jerold Lindner, 6 July 2012.

Dunlap says his "relationship" with Llanos, who was ordained as a priest in 1974, endured until 1976. 1. Miani/Italy Miani and a child went on a camping trip in Italy in 1947. Letter from the Salesian President in Rome to the American consul dated 1950 reveals the Salesians in Rome dumped a pedophile on the US: “Rev. (Rucker accusations)
Dispenza accusationMary Dispenza Esfahan (1939-) was 7 when her parish priest, George Rucker, raped her in the auditorium of the Catholic school she attended in East Los Angeles. At the time, her mother, who worked in the parish, was chatting with kitchen workers in the next room. Eventually, Dispenza became a nun and a teacher at her old school, St. Alphonsus, often meeting with students in the auditorium where she remembers being molested. It was 43 years before Dispenza allowed herself to release repressed memories and confront what had happened in that room. Mary Dispenza no longer calls herself a Catholic, no longer attends church and doubts she will be able to reconcile the abuse with her faith. “Everything that I knew, all my identity, was wrapped up in the church in one way or another; I was just lost.... I felt we both lost: The church lost me, and I lost the church. And we both had invested a lot in each other for all those years.” She expected to receive $1.33 million from the 2006 settlement.
Falter accusationCindy Falter testified that when Rucker he got to St. Anthony’s, he would walk into a first grade class, pick out a student, take her off into the rectory or even on the altar and rape her often with "giving of Communion wine." A legal brief on George Neville Rucker states that over and over he fondled her on her genitals, under her clothes, massaged her breasts and nipples, licked her, and penetrated her vagina with his penis. Most of us are so fucked up. I think there’s even a couple of Rucker victims that only remotely function. He would scratch crosses in my chest with something like a needle, like a sewing needle.

Wempe caseRev. Michael Edwin Wempe (1940-) associate pastor at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church in Santa Paula during the 1980s, who served as an associate pastor at several parishes in and around Ventura County. Cardinal Roger Mahoney sent him to a sexual disorders treatment center in New Mexico, 1987. Accused of abuse, arrested, re-arrested 2003. Sued. Original criminal charges dropped due to Supreme Court ruling 2003.
  1. Bashforth allegationWempe allegedly molested Bashforth and his brother, when they were children in the Conejo Valley.
  2. Jayson B. allegation 29-year-old witness, said that, at first, he thought it was normal that the priest touched his genitals. “It was Father Mike,” he testified. “It was really difficult to think that anything he did could be wrong.” But he became disturbed when the abuse escalated to oral copulation, said Jayson B., who wept through most of his testimony. “I said, 'What are you doing?' And he said that I was a special boy and he loves me.” Wempe was accused of molesting Jayson B. from 1990 to 1995, beginning when he was 11, while the priest was working as a chaplain at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and other times in parking garages in Wempe's car. Wempe admitted molesting 13 other boys in the 1970s and 1980s, including Jayson's two brothers, but cannot be tried in those cases because the statute of limitations has expired. He denied molesting Jayson B., however, and his lawyers say the man fabricated the charges in an effort to seek vengeance for his brothers.
  3. Wempe arrest Arrested and held on $2 million bail on suspicion of molesting five boys, 7 to 16 years old when the incidents occurred, in the 1970s and 1980s, 26 June 2003. Supreme Court ruling voided 42 sexual abuse allegations against him.
  4. Wempe charged Wempe was charged with three counts of a lewd act on a child and one count of oral copulation of a person under 16, 1990-1995, 11 September 2003. A 24-year-old man testified that Wempe, while serving as chaplain at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, molested him in his office at the hospital when he was 11 when Wempe took him on his lap and fondled him while he played on a computer in 1990, 9 February 2004. Former altar boyat Wempe's church, testified at a preliminary hearing 13 February 2004, that he was groped numerous times by the priest, including once during a water-skiing trip to Missouri when he was about 14. Wempe pleaded not guilty to five charges that he sexually abused the boy over a five-year period. In he hope of limiting damaging testimony about old cases, Wempe’s attorney admitted his client had molested 13 boys more than 20 years earlier, 18 November 2005. Sentenced to three years in state prison 5 May 2006 but was paroled in February 2007, with little publicity.

USA Northeast Province Jesuits with Credible Allegations of Sexual Rape of Minors. Jesuits included on this list have one or more credible allegations of abuse of a minor (any person under the age of 18). These Jesuits are living, deceased, or former members with credible allegations after 1950.
The USA Northeast Province was formed in 2014 and includes the members of the former Buffalo (1960s), New England, and New York Provinces. The Northeast Province includes the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and northern New Jersey. An allegation is deemed “credible” if there is a preponderance of evidence that the allegation is more likely true than not after investigation. Credibility can also be established by conviction in a court or by the admission of the truth of the allegation by the Jesuit. Many Jesuits on this list have not been found guilty of a crime or liable for any civil claim. Many accusations were made decades after the abuse allegedly took place, and often after the accused Jesuit had died. Jesuits with allegations currently under investigation are not included on this list. Listed below each Jesuit’s name are any external apostolic assignments he had and the dates of those assignments.
Jesuits release list of priests credibly accused of abuse, including 22 with Mass. ties
The governing body for Jesuit priests in eight Northeastern states released a list Tuesday of 50 clergy who were credibly accused of sexual rape against children dating back to 1950, including 22 who were affiliated with high schools, hospitals, churches, and colleges in Massachusetts.
The list includes 16 Jesuits who worked at Boston College High School in Dorchester, and one priest who ministered in Fall River and Gloucester, but was only stripped of his duties in the last two weeks as officials at the USA Northeast Jesuit Province prepared to publicise his name.
All but five of the Jesuits with Massachusetts ties are listed as deceased. Among the living is James Talbot, who was defrocked in 2013 and jailed last year for sexually assaulting a boy in Freeport, Maine, during the 1990s, according to The Portland Press Herald.
