Cost of Sexual Abuse.
In Ireland there were over 72,000 men and women to date paid by the Irish Catholic Church for their sexual abuses while in the care of the Irish Catholic Church. A lengthy report detailing cases of emotional, physical and sexual abuse of thousands of children over 70 years was published on 20 May 2009. The report, The Ryan Report, The Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse in Ireland, drew on the testimony of nearly 3,000 witnesses, men and women who attended more than 200 Catholic-run schools in Ireland from the 1930s until the mid 2000s. As per 2002 agreement between the victims on one side, 72,000 men and women and the Roman Catholic Clerics and Irish Government on other side, all those who accepted the State/Clerics settlements, had to waive their right to sue both the Irish Catholic Church and the Irish Government. Their abusers' the Irish Clerics, who insisted that their identities were to be kept secret. Additionally the Irish Catholic Church secretly paid out hundreds of Millions of Euros compensation for child sex abuses, of other children not covered by The Ryan Report - in all cases the powerful Irish Catholic Church has always refused to admit liability. You can’t put a price on how much damage the Roman Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandals have done to the victims. But you sure as hell can count how much the Church has paid out as a result of those lawsuits. Since 1950, the amount comes out of nearly $6 billion has been paid out by the Roman Catholic Church world-wide. And that’s an underestimate since we still don’t know how much was spent for therapy for the victims, help for the offenders, and the creation of “safe environment” programs. Here in Ireland, the Irish Catholic Church and the Irish Government has incurred nearly 1.5 billion Euros in costs related to the Irish Clerics sex abuse crisis during the past 65 years. In addition, separate research recently published calculates that other scandal-related consequences such as lost membership and diverted giving has cost the Irish Catholic Church another few million Euros for the past 25 years. Up until now, "nearly 1.5 billion Euros" has been the most widely cited figure by media, academics and activists for the cost to the Irish Catholic Church for Clergy sex abuse and its cover-up. Academic researchers shows that figure is far too low, probably by as much as a hundred million Euros -- and perhaps much more. Settlements with nondisclosure or confidentiality restrictions are not included in the results. It is also estimated that nearly 1,550 secret cash settlements payments have been made with the victims and the Irish Catholic Church since the 1960s. Irish Media rarely report routine financial data related to sex abuse, purely because the settlements are in secret. To many experts the figure of 1,550 secret cash payments are the tip of the iceberg and that the figure is probably much higher. In addition to this there are hidden other costs like for example, the cost for therapy for victims 10 to 12 million Euros per year. Support for offenders another few million Euros, Legal fees, another few million Euros. Then there are child protection efforts, including training, background checks, safe environment coordinators, and other measures, another few million Euros, and for "other costs," a designation covering such items as abuse investigations, insurance premiums, emergency assistance for victims and monitoring service for offenders, another few million Euros. So it all adds up, the Dioceses of Dublin for example keeps a Law Firm busy, 24/7 full time, with two dozen or more Lawyers and Senior Barristers, and 46 supporting staff at great cost sorting out legal problems of Clerical abuses. As a way of illustrating the magnitude of the costs to the Irish Catholic Church, there are 26 dioceses in Ireland, each of the 26 dioceses in Ireland, have their own legal law firm, that my friends is a lot of money and lots of Clerical sin. In attempting to compile as thorough a record as possible, articles surfaced that provided some insight into why it is impossible to ever get a complete picture of the secret settlements in Ireland, the Irish Catholic Bishops have ordered all legal documents and documentations, shredded, that it ordered the documents destroyed because those legal documents "showed how much money the Irish Catholic Church had spent on treatment, litigation and secret settlements related to sex abuse of children within all the 26 Irish dioceses. It is probably impossible to calculate the effect such great financial losses have had on the Irish Catholic Church's ministries and outreach programmes, but the losses both financially and spiritually, plus the loss of its absolute moral authority are and will be enormous for the Irish Catholic Church, to bear, to the future generations of Irish life and Irish people for decades to come. Eyewitness to History
When a baby was born in a Mother and Baby Home, and the Nuns decide to illegally remove that baby, the poor unwed mother was carefully selected by the Nuns of the Mother and Baby Home before hand, by the colour of unwed mother’s hair, eyes and her age, plus the selected unwed mother would be given extra rations to fatten her up, like a sow really for the cattle mart. The unwed mother’s family was also taken into account, by the enquiring Nuns, specially if the unwed mother was dumped by her family and the unwed mother was far away from family and her home, having no contact with any family members. The normal procedure would be the baby when born would be removed from her mother immediately and taken off the ward and placed in a cot in another room far away from its mother, within a few hours the baby would be spirited away by a Nun to another Convent in a different part of Ireland. The new baby would be washed and breast- fed by a wet-nurse, the wet nurse would be a woman who worked full time, unpaid, in the chosen Convent, the Nuns would tell her lies that the baby’s Mother died and that this baby needed feeding, this woman would care for this new baby for a few weeks allowing the Nuns time to organise a sale of the baby at an illegal auction. All wet-nurses, were unpaid slaves at many of the Mother and Baby Homes and Magdalene Laundries in Ireland. The Nuns were grooming the new baby because they knew the baby would command a higher price at the secret auctions, extra food and special clothing would be provided for this new stolen baby, to make them look more healthy. This was done so that the baby would fetch as much money as possible. In a few weeks the stolen baby would be brought from the convent in Ireland and flown overseas, normally to another holding Convent in Boston, New York City and New Jersey in America, far away from the baby’s mother. The other cruelty would be that the delirium mother would be sudden confused and racked with guilt about the loss of her baby, blaming the baby’s death on herself, encouraged by the conspiratorial Nuns and the Mother and Baby Homes residential priest, that it was God’s punishment, she was a whore, a sinful woman, and her whore of baby died and is now in hell where she would soon be joining her baby, she would be told by both the Nuns and Priest. In the Convent in either Boston, New York City and New Jersey in American the new baby, now fattened would be raised on a cot so that he could be seen by the prospective buyers. Before the bidding began in the American Convent, those prospective buyers that wished to, could come up onto the cot to inspect the new baby closely. The poor baby would have to endure being poked, prodded and forced to open its mouth for the prospective buyers. Before selling the babies the Nuns did everything they could to improve the price, the baby would received increased food and water rations, and the baby’s skin and hair was rubbed with butter and makeup to give the baby a healthy appearance. The wet-nurse would try to hide any scars or evidence of disease, sometimes using cruel or painful cosmetic techniques. The strongest and healthiest babies were sold by this way, before a sale, the Superior Nun of the Convent in Boston, New York City or New Jersey would agreed on an equal price for baby often several thousand dollars a piece. Once in a while a particularly good “specimen” of a baby got the Nuns excited, because they knew the specimen baby would get a higher premium. The auctioneer, the Superior Nun of the Convent in Boston, New York City or New Jersey would decide a price to start the bidding by phone to all the prospective buyers. This would be higher for fit, young babies, especially if the baby had red hair or blond hair, male babies had a higher premium again. Potential buyers would then bid against each other, without realising they were doing so. The person who bid the most would then own that selected baby. The average price was $3,000 to $5,000 plus a, additional yearly fixed price of about $250 per year generally paid to the local Parish Priest in the area of America were the new baby was sold. Remember over 60,000 Irish babies were illegally sold in this way, in reality the babies were simply kidnapped by the Nuns, The Nuns would also arrange new catholic names and different dates of birth for the babies, because the Nuns didn’t want the unwed mothers finding their babies. The Irish Government conspired with the Holy Nuns to create new Irish passports and other documentations to fit the baby’s new identity. More cruel still, many brothers and sisters were forever broken up in this way, never known they had brothers and sisters. The stealing of Irish babies proved too dangerous and also very lucrative moneymaker for the Nuns at the Mother and Baby Home in Ireland, illegally selling of Irish babies went on for about 70 years. Something else, some potential adoptee families stipulated on rare occasions, seeking a brother and sister, unit, which were sold together to that family who asked for a special order, willing to pay the Nuns, it was really no problem, the barbarity inherent in one human being's ability to own and sell another, the Holy Nuns had no shame. It was the Irish Catholic Nuns who sold illegal babies for profit and profit only. The heinous crimes of the Irish Nuns who ran the Mother and Baby Homes in Ireland and sold stolen babies knew no bounds. According to both the U.N. and The Council of Europe which estimates that perhaps $42 billion in United States dollars is generated per year in human trafficking. Moreover, human trafficking doesn’t include “human smuggling,” which involves people voluntarily paying others to smuggle them from one location to another. And according to the State Department of the United States of America, as many as 820,000, children are trafficked in the world every year. The Irish Nuns were part of this human trafficking, only of children, the Irish Nuns forced their depravity and quest for riches at the expense of unwed mothers and their children. The downside of selling Irish Babies which was really Child trafficking on a grand scale and which took many forms. I’m sure many adoptive babies went to good homes in America, but its now a known fact that a few stolen Irish babies were trafficked for other purposes like… 1. The trafficking of Irish babies for sexual purposes 2. Adoptive Irish Children were forced to work under dangerous working conditions as domestic slaves for their adoptive families, unpaid. 3. A few of the Adoptive Irish Children ended up been used by sex traffickers for child prostitution, and child pornography, because of their illicit adoption. 4. Perhaps the worst kind of trafficking and it happened, was for the purpose of stealing of the Irish babies organs. After all, once the adoptive baby’s organs are gone, so is the baby, another baby could be bought from the Holy Nuns, this monstrous activity is not just an urban legend, it happened. Remember a baby sold was worth more if its organs could be removed, wealthy clients were willing to pay much larger monies for each child’s transplant of organs, much more lucrative than the $3-$5,000 the Nuns sold the baby for… Finally welcome to Irish Catholic Church Ethos pertaining to unwed mothers and their children, over the years I met hundreds of Irish Babies illegally adopted, now grown women and men, telling their own horror stories and looking for Irish family connections and an explanation from the Irish Catholic Church, few had a good story to tell about their adoptive experience. I’m certain that members of my own immediate family were illegally sold this way, so far I have been trying to find my Brother Carol Mccarthy, and also other brothers and sisters I may have had, but with the criminal Nuns burning all their documentations to hide their criminal actives, A serious offence, especially one in violation of Christian and Human decency and morality, I sadly may never know the truth …Owen Felix O’Neill “Sorry not Sorry.”
In a weird mix of plaintiveness and disingenuousness, Archbishop Martin of Dublin is complaining now about all the bad new stories of the murdered 800 babies flushed into a septic tank in a Convent in the town of Tuam, County Galway and the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin to be run by the Holy Nuns who ran the concentration camps, the Magdalene Laundries, in Ireland, in which tens of thousands of women and children were enslaved, with many dying and dumped into mass pits at the back of the Convent Laundries, and how Irish people are so mean and cruel to his clerics. Archbishop Martin also complains that the stories are fake news, that Catholic Clerics, these Holy people are treated as insignificant or on the peripheral of Irish Society. What a shame, poor Archbishop Martin defending the indefensible, from his palace in Dublin, he lacks frankness, but when you lie for a living as he does, what on earth have facts or candour to do, Archbishop Martin excuses are rather disingenuous. We’re queasy too, at your disingenuous self-defence, Archbishop Martin. It now appears that Archbishop Martin's comments on 'justified resentment among priests’, Archbishop Martin’s is crying and complaining like a spoilt child that his church has faced criticism recently in the wake of the Tuam babies scandal, as well as the controversy surrounding the ownership of the National Maternity Hospital. “That Catholic bashing has been going on for far too long, said Archbishop Martin who is now calling for a pushback, “The piling on has gotten ugly, according to Archbishop Martin. If we, the clergy, and the laity don't stand up for themselves, they will only whet the appetite of our enemies to seek more vengeance.” Archbishop Martin said that Catholics are “unfairly under attack as they live out their faith and their ministry generously and with dedication. Archbishop Martin continues, “there is a sense in Ireland today in which there is a culture of relentless reminding the Irish Catholic Church of the sins of its members and at times of painting every individual and every moment in the history of the Church with the same condemnation, he continued.. “I notice a certain justified resentment among priests and religious and committed Catholics at somehow being unfairly under attack as they live out their faith and their ministry generously and with dedication. “There is a sense in which they feel that it is time to stand up and respond. The response cannot, however, be to deny the mistakes and the wrongdoings of the past or get into unfruitful or polemical quarrel. “Evil is conquered by goodness; nastiness by love; dishonesty by truth, corruption by integrity. The response of the Christian to criticism is reform and conversion; it is the call to renew the Church to be more effectively a witness to the God of love.” This is more of Catholic Ethos and a sense of them closing ranks, as for the Survivors the nightmare of their horrendous childhood is forever ongoing, what with new revelations almost on a daily basis. What push back, what do you mean Archbishop Martin??, where was God’s love when Catholic Nuns flushed into a septic toilet 800 babies and another 1,500 of unnamed mothers and their babies dumped under the children’s playground in the same Convent in Tuam in Country Galway, a place I was privileged to visit recently with a group of outraged Irish people.. The same place I stood and gave a speech in front of a crowd of outraged ordinary Irish citizens who came to offer their support. Unwed mothers locked into religious convents as slaves forever, as their children were stolen and sold off for profits for the Irish Catholic Church, and the children not sold, locked up in the rape and torture rooms of Catholic Orphanages, and Industrial Schools in Ireland…Yes Archbishop Martin, have your pushback against the truth and the lies you preach from up high, but please remember their are still thousands of Survivors out there, I’m one of them, and we know the truth. There are a class of people, the clerics, living amongst us today, who seem to be belong to the middle ages. Men and Women whose ambitions, they thought was so great, as to rise in the world, they shirk at nothing, they would forge testimony, torture women and children, commit perjury, connive, lie, practice deceit, even in the foulest form, here the greatest sin of all was committed on vulnerable women and their babies, falsely accuse them of unfounded shame. The clerics committed horrendous barbaric acts against the vulnerable women and their babies, because they could, under the protection of a false doctrine. The clerics committed gruesome murders, flogging and rapes and gave the outward appearance of truth to the world, they twisted truth, as they demeaned bewildered mothers and their children, who were betrayed, betrayed from the local Catholic Church altars in very city, town and village in Ireland, by both their families and the Catholic Church. The lie began against unwed mothers and their babies by the manipulative Irish Catholic Church and shameful, cowardly Irish Government. There is nothing both the unscrupulous Irish Catholic Church and the disingenuous Irish Government could do now, to compensate or console the misery, the horrors of the Survivors, the pain they endured on a daily basis, it seemed impossible that anyone could endure such pain, but the unwed mothers and their children were subjected to a daily ritual of abuse and grief in the Mother and Baby Homes, Magdalene Laundries and Industrial Schools that ran up and down this green land of Ireland. So Archbishop Martin, how about the real truth, the secret graves and septic tanks concealing thousands of women and their babies, murdered, raped, flogged, now dumped in these very same, Catholic Convents, Mother and Baby Homes, Industrials Schools, and Magdalene Laundries in your name, the name of the Catholic Church in which you are a very proud member. Please I welcome the push back, bring it on…Irish People will no longer tolerate or believe your version of goodness or forgiveness, sprouting the word “Sorry” doesn’t cut it any longer, your days of barking out superstitious rubbish is finished, the game is up…justified resentment among the Irish People is only just starting. Archbishop Martin- saying “Sorry” that 800 babies were found flushed into a septic tank, and again your also say “Sorry” about the tens of thousands of women and babies concealed in secret pits in the many Catholic Convents throughout Ireland, and another “Sorry” again, about the 60,000 babies stolen from their own mothers and illegally sold, how do you Archbishop Martin- say “Sorry” to the grieving women still alive today and without emotion or pity, the deliberately cruel and callous Nuns told the new mother’s at the time that their babies died at birth, but were in fact stolen and sold by the cold-blooded, pitiless Nuns..now these same stolen babies are coming back looking for their mothers, but these same adoptive babies were also told that their mothers had died at birth, worse till they learn they had brothers and sisters, they never knew or shared, also stolen and adopted…how relentlessly cruel…. Again Archbishop Martin- I hear you say..“Sorry” for the tens of thousands of other vulnerable children, flogged, raped, murdered, starved, in these same Catholic Convents, Mother and Baby Homes, Industrials Schools, and Magdalene Laundries in your name. It is a ferocious headache way to say “Sorry” do you Archbishop Martin mean "that “Sorry” absolves you and your Church from any sense of responsibility, is that the pushback you talk about, the Catholic Values “Sorry” or do you really mean but I don't care and am not sorry for saying it.” sorry not sorry, mistake not mistake. Here is a man, Archbishop Martin, then as a young priest, Diarmuid Martin in the late 1960s who I told about a sitting Archbishop of Dublin, Charles McQuaid, who raped me at the age of 15, and the other trainee priests and priests who used my hostel, the hostel for boys, in Dublin, owned by the Archbishop McQuaid in Dublin, and used as a rape room, and all I got from Diarmuid Martin, now Archbishop Martin was a sore ear after he slapped me for telling him about the many Priests, Bishops and Archbishops scouting for boys in the hostel for boys to rape. That the Hostel had Pedophile problems and was in the grip of clerical Pedophiles which was epidemic, with the rich and powerful Catholic Church figures visiting and abusing vulnerable boys, most of the boys were between fifteen to eighteen years old, especially selected and released from Industrial Schools with impunity. I’m sorry, from Archbishop Martin won’t work, I don’t want a “Sorry” from you, nor your pushback. It was all organised, there were a lot of Pedophile Priests, they thought they ruled Ireland, they did, we would never speak out, because of shame and fear, that we, the victims couldn’t speak as loudly as the people in power. That’s the tragedy of attempting to reveal what is happening or what happened, those that tried to speak before me were squashed, by the Irish Catholic Church and their lives have been irreparably damaged, forever. I for one don't intent to be silent anymore. For the first eighteen years of my life I was surrounded by Pedophiles, sadly the number one problem in the Catholic Church was and is pedophilia, the church was built on their sins, Priests with parasitic interests will always see children, and especially vulnerable children as their prey. The Shameful War on Irish Women
The Irish Catholic Church used Irish Press Propaganda to promoted its distorted values asserted and preached by the Irish Catholic Church. The Irish Press stood mute and allowed the Irish Catholic Church Propaganda to be used to maintain the cult of personality around Archbishop Charles McQuaid to promote Irish Catholic Church values with propaganda campaigns vilifying Irish writers, women, unwed mothers and their children, Trade Unions and organisations with alternative views then the Irish Catholic Church. Archbishop Charles McQuaid’s regime touted the concept the mystical idea of a pure Catholic Ireland and wanted to excluded anyone deemed hereditarily “less valuable” or had racially foreign ideas to his concept of a pure Catholic Ireland. McQuaid’s regime wanted to control reproduction and marriage of women, aimed at strengthening the national Irish body, eliminating a class of people, mostly unwed mothers from the general Irish population. This Catholic Church idea had wide support among many Irish trained physicians, teachers and scientists, many readily embraced Archbishop Charles McQuaid’s new regime’s emphasis on Irish purity and family unity of marriage, many new career opportunities were at stake, after all the Irish Catholic Church controlled the appointments of all teachers, doctors, surgeons in all the hospitals, schools and universities throughout Ireland, that was some power. In addition the Irish Catholic Church was and did controlled the Irish Government, elections didn’t matter. All appointments to the Irish Courts were through the Irish Catholic Church, as were all senior appointments within the Irish Police Force and the Irish Military Forces, were also appointed by the powerful Irish Catholic Church. So ever lever of power within the Irish State was controlled by the Irish Catholic Church. Archbishop Charles McQuaid’s dictatorship, was backed by sweeping Irish State powers, which silenced critics of the powerful Irish Catholic Church policies and Irish Catholic Church’s rights. There were no such thing as individual rights, only Irish Catholic Church rights to speak for the Catholic masses. The facts are, all educational and cultural institutions and the media came under Irish Catholic Church control, free thinkers, liberals, writers, Trade Unions and intellectuals were considered “aliens,” were purged from Irish universities, schools, scientific research institutes, hospitals, and the Civil Service. Irish people in high positions in these institutions who were viewed as politically “unreliable” met a similar fate. The segregation of unwed mothers and their children, the sterilisation of some unwed mothers was a mandate under the Irish Catholic Church, done through their control of Mother and Baby Homes throughout Ireland. The Irish Catholic Church took radical steps to segregate unwed mothers and their children from Irish Society, for fear that they would contaminate the general population, sex was absolutely forbidden outside of church sanctioned marriage. Unwed mothers were criminalised and their bastard children were forcibly removed and either housed in Industrial Church Schools or illegally exported, forced out of Ireland through illegal adoptions. The Irish Catholic Church coordinated the forced emigration of tens of thousands of babies and children from their homeland of Ireland. The Irish Catholic Church through the brutal Nuns, convinced many unwed mothers remaining in Ireland that staying as slaves and prisoners in the Magdalene Laundries was their only option to survival. Nobody, in Ireland, not even the Irish Press, or elected Irish Government, T.Ds, who had no backbone, dare criticised these cruel Irish Catholic Church pogroms against unwed mothers and their children. At the same time, sterilisation of unwed women gained great support among the clerical circles in Ireland as a means of reducing costs for Catholic institutional care and poor relief. Irish Catholic Church sanctioned purgative attacks against unwed mothers and their children was essential to maintain fear and control of the general population as a whole. In the eyes of the Irish Catholic Church, unwed mothers were parasites. Sadly Irish Catholic Church, persecution of the unwed mothers met with little resistance from the rest of Irish society. This inaction did not mean that most Irish people agreed with the Irish Catholic Church, but their silence was telling, most Irish people went along with what the Irish Catholic Church wanted and did. In reality the scandalous Irish Catholic Church often publicised through the local church’s Sunday mass, the round-ups and the criminalisation of unwed mothers in every town and village in Ireland. This may sound implausible and too awful to believe but in their early years Irish legislative law at the time led to the segregation, confinement and extermination of unwed mothers and their children. Unwed mothers and their children were to be reduced to second-class citizenship and punished criminally by both the Irish State and the Powerful Irish Catholic Church, if they, the unwed women sought to work, marry or engage in sexual contact again. The ultimate goal of the manipulative Irish Catholic Church was to terrify Irish women, wether they were married or not, all women were to be silenced through fear and shame, and we must never forget how tenaciously the Irish Catholic Church’s regime was and their rulebook touted on demagoguery ethics that the Powerful Irish Catholic Church preached, ruthlessly and cruelly in Ireland at the time, and to a less extent today, sadly the Irish Catholic Church still has its apologists. Owen Felix O’Neill A PERVASIVE SENSE OF SHAME
The Bon Secours Nuns email has now come to light…the email is damning in itself….The Bon Secours Nuns were telling lies to the world and covering up like pros, of course they had professional help by a well known PR. Firm here in Ireland. The Bon Secours Nuns hired Terry Prone, a PR and reputation management expert, to deal with the media. The little, holy Bon Secours Nuns email was indicative of a deliberate policy of disinformation and outright lies, quote from their email issued in their name…“you will find no mass grave, no evidence that children were ever so buried and a local police force casting their eyes to heaven and saying, ‘Yeah, a few bones were found – but this was an area where famine victims were buried’in the 1840s. So move on please!!…” The language of the email was very clever. The local Gardaí were casting their eyes to heaven. Up there, The local Gardaí said, doubtless God was nodding his approval. How could anyone suggest such a thing of the poor holy Nuns, the wonderful, iniquity, Bon Secours Nuns? The tone of the email was essentially condescending to, and dismissive of, Catherine Cordless’ who found the 800 babies in the septic tank… The Bon Secours Sisters are behind the biggest private hospital empire in the world, they take in billions of dollars profit a year. “The Bon Secours Sisters grotesque empire was built on the bones of the murdered Tuam babies and their unwed mothers plus another ten thousand or more babies and children, now dumped and buried in other mass gravel pit graves in Convents up and down this green country of Ireland. The Bon Secours Sisters not only did they steal the children from their mothers, they also sold and trafficked the babies out of Ireland. The Bon Secours Sisters were paid by the Irish State, 'headage payments' of up to $3,000 for each child sent to the United States.” at the time and huge sum of money in the 1940s, 50s, 60s. Let us be very clear on what I’m saying, please remember it was the good Nuns and their criminal antagonists in the Irish Catholic Church who illegally sold the babies, who trafficked in them and, in many cases, starved and neglected the babies and children to point of death. The Irish Catholic Church had a oppressive asphyxiation, on the throat of Ireland, in which very few of its people could escape from the stranglehold of their poisonous ideology which produced toxic shame. Most of the children and their mothers in the Bon Secours Mother and Baby homes and other Religious Orders of Nuns were both sexually abused and physically abused. The children and their mothers were bullied, beaten, raped and murdered, made to feel that they were worthless. The working assumption of the religious orders in Ireland, and of the clergy generally, was that these filth, the vermin of unwed mothers were the product of sin, and should be punished accordingly, after all their mothers were proven whores, by having and conceiving the product of their sin, babies, the devil spawns. The Bon Secours Sisters took the babies and children and sold them, trafficked the stolen babies and older children, and what they, The Bon Secours Sisters couldn't sell, they starved and neglected, the babies and the children in their care. The babies and the children in the care of the Religious Orders were denied to the point of their own disappearance from Irish hearts and from Irish sights, banished from Ireland and, in many cases, like the Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, in county Galway, into dark eternal pits of hidden hell, shut out of mind, out of sight. The Nuns used to say to me as a young child, “old sins have long shadows”. Yes old indiscretions can continue to haunt and have consequences well into the future, really to the very end of your life. A frightened unwed mother, now in her 80s, whose baby was stolen by the Nuns, now sadly reflects, "We gave them up to what we convinced ourselves was the Nuns' ‘care’,” she added. "We gave them up maybe to spare them the savagery of gossip... and we gave them up because of our perverse, in fact, morbid relationship with what you call ‘respectability’.” "No the nuns didn’t break into our homes to kidnap our children," she said – as if anyone had accused the nuns of breaking and entering to steal babies. It is burying the babies and children as if they were rodentia, filthy vermin, my god, who would believe, Nuns flushed the babies into septic tanks, we here in Ireland allowed the Catholic Church to do this heinous crime against our own babies, we were powerless in the face of such wickedness. Holy Convents where the remains of babies and children were thrown, without a shred of dignity or respect, like used toilet paper and then flushed, finished, out of sight out of mind. The appalling truth, is that this, is no longer a shock, the horrible reality, which so many children in Ireland had to endure, is that they were treated like vermin. The truth is, Children were brutalised in Ireland without the slightest compunction, by people into whose care they had been entrusted, and “shocking.” in one sense is an understatement. Damningly, the scientific evidence is clear now, according to the Mother and Baby Home Commission of Investigation into the Mother and Baby Homes in Ireland. The bones of the babies they dug up confirmed that the ages of the deceased babies ranged from 35 foetal weeks to two to three years. Damningly, the scientific evidence is clear that the remains date from the period during which the so called Mother and Baby home in Tuam was in operation, from 1925 to 1961. The Bon Secours Sisters always claimed that the babies were from the famine period, 1845 and 1852…as can be seen, even denying that the babies were from the period they The Bon Secours Sisters took over the running of the Mother and Baby Home in 1925. The Bon Secours Sisters couldn't acknowledge that they in fact knew that over 800 to 1,500 babies were their responsibilities, and the cruel and callous manner in which they disposed of the babies. And the report of the Commission of Investigation went on to confirm that a number of the samples are definitely to date from the 1950s., this my friends is not ancient history, this will sadly tarnish the Hollywood image of Ireland, a quaint green land of plentiful happily married families with their dozens of red-heading children playing with gusto in lush green meadows of rural Ireland, and even benevolent Priests, like parasites, the emerald cockroach wasps, hiding, fishing in local streams, even still rustic chaste Nuns, pure, and untouched, all in virginal white, with their rosy cheeks, dancing and singing at the crossroads, as gently and musically church-bells, peel out. As Yeats said “Romantic Ireland is dead and gone, but he meant “Ireland was already ‘dead and gone’.Yeats evidently equated the death of ‘Romantic Ireland’ with the rise of an Irish generation that believed that ‘men were born to pray and save [souls]’ alone. …Pass the bucket please….
